Social media is global and it is one of the most popular forms of communication today. We strongly recommend participating in social media to all of our clients, no matter what their business is. The most important social media to participate in is Facebook fan page and Twitter (or YouTube, if your business have the resources to create an engaging YouTube channel.)
Our advice... Don't be scared!
We recommend social media to all of our clients because we know social media is not an option any more. Social media dominates the internet and your business must participate in social media in order to keep up with your competitors and the fast evolving world of internet.
We've come across many clients in our careers who said that they haven't started social networking yet because they are scared to participate in social media. We often hear things like "what if nobody likes my Facebook page?" Our best advice is "don't be scared." We'll like your page and with time, others will too.
It's free, it's easy, but why is it so hard?
Few tweets about your day here... and few updates about your company there... On paper, social media seems like it will be a piece of cake. However, if that's the case why do so many companies struggle to maintain an active Facebook page and Twitter account?
Inactive Facebook page or Twitter account can look really bad on your company. We recommend paying really close attention to your Facebook page and Twitter account for some time until you get used to the routine. Another great idea is to use your smartphone to social network. People with a smart phone are much more successful in social media than those without a smart phone.
Treat your business Facebook fan page as if it was a person. Communicate with your fans, update them on what's going on and just be yourself. There is no right way to social network so just use it however you seem fit. However, you should never forget that Facebook fan pages are public. For this reason, you should always be careful what goes on your Facebook fan page.
Twitter is just like your Facebook fan page except it's a little more personal. Just like Facebook fan pages, be yourself and use Twitter any way you want. You can use Twitter to talk about your day or update all your followers about an exciting news or a new article/blog.
Whether it's Facebook or Twitter, the most important rule is to be yourself. You should never forget that social media is a form of communication. If you don't communicate, your social media campaign won't be successful.
